Querce Bettina

Querce Bettina is a family owned and run farm on the southwest slopes of Montalcino at an altitude of around 440 meters above sea level. Husband and Wife team Roberto Moretti and Sandra Barenghi bought the 29ha estate in 1990 and following years of research into the terroir they planted 2.4 hectares of Sangiovese in 1999. Their aim from the start was to create two exceptional wines; Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, and this was realized in 2009 when the 2004 Querce Bettina wines were first released.

They have subsequently developed additional wines releasing limited quantities of Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG in exceptional years and an IGT Toscana Rosso.

Legend has it that the property on which the Querce Bettina wines are produced was inhabited by a fairy named Bettina. She was said to spin wool each day under an oak (querce in Italian) tree on the property. Passersby would see her and she would bless them with her woolen goods. Bettina is still blessing the wines produced by this wonderful estate.

The total production is about 10,000 bottles per year with approximately 6,500 bottles being Rosso di Montalcino and the remainder being Brunello. The winery is certified organic.

A warm vintage in 2015 produced wines of power in Montalcino. The 2015 Querce Bettina is no exception. A powerful Rosso di Montalcino from this fantastic vintage. Bright cherries with velvety tannins. Long aging potential. Those that are patient will be richly rewarded. This wine pairs well with dried Italian meats and juicy steaks.

 2016 Rosso di Montalcino DOC

An elegant wine that’s drinking beautifully at the moment. Cherry fruits on the palate with a long finish that lingers. It has intense perfume of red cherries and allspice. The 2016 vintage was one of finesse and elegance, which is typical of Querce Bettina wines in most years. A great expression of Sangiovese from 21 year-old vines. The wine is fresh, with a savory flavor, light tannins and a slight spiciness that makes it the ideal accompaniment for red meats and both fresh and seasoned cheeses.

2008 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

An elegant Brunello that is indicative of the vintage. The wine has silky tannins with red fruits. The freshness that is typical of Querce Bettina wines is present in this wine. This is a mature Brunello and can be enjoyed alone or with a variety of meats, including fish, and both fresh and aged cheeses.

 2009 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

Ready to drink now. The nose screams Brunello with leather and spice. On the palate the tannins are integrated with balanced acidity and red fruits. Truly an elegant wine that will allow you to experience what a mature Brunello tastes like.
